Linode selects Hurricane Electric for expansion

I am very pleased to announce that Linode.com has expanded with new space in Hurricane Electric’s Fremont, CA data center facility. Hurricane Electric is a Tier 1 provider, operating their own world-class national (and UK) backbone with hundreds of peering partnerships.

All new host machines (host9 and up) will be located at Hurricane Electric.

  1. Will the other servers continue to be housed indefinitely at ThePlanet’s datacenter?

  2. Absolutely. This is in addition to what we have at ThePlanet, not a replacement at all. There are no plans to discontinue the excellent service we’ve received from ThePlanet.

  3. Does Hurricane Electric block ports in the same fashion that ThePlanet does? (see [url=http://www.linode.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=314]previous thread[/url]). I’m assuming not, as most providers don’t.

    If they don’t, could I request my Linode be moved to a host there? (at your convenience, of course).

  4. Can we request to move our Linodes to a machine at HE (I don’t mind losing what I have on my Linode at this time, I can set it up again)? And do you have an IP at HE we could trace to? I’m in Europe and I think HE is faster. Thanks

  5. What would be could is if you offered linodes at both.

    That way you can have linodes at both it would make for a good back up solution etc.

    You can ping/traceroute host9.linode.com, which is at the HE datacenter.

    I’d be willing to move the Linode 64 account to HE since we don’t have to transfer your disk images across datacenters. Just fill out a support ticket with your request.

    If someone does want to transfer DCs and take their disk images with them, I’d have to charge a small fee ($5-10 bucks) for the admin time and bandwidth.

    Indeed, that is part of the plan (to allow selection of data center) but I have to put some more thought into the design and implementation of the feature-set..

  14. I know a decent amount about networking and level 3 would’ve been pretty sweet choice.
